Fuel price increase Botswana 2021. The Government of Botswana has announced the adjustment of fuel prices today which will take effect from Monday 20th December this year.
Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority informs the general public that the retail pump prices for petrol and diesel will be adjusted as follows:
- Retail pump price of unleaded petrol 93 will increase by 160 thebe per litre
- Retail pump price of unleaded petrol 95 will increase by 165 thebe per litre;
- Retail pump price of diesel 50ppm will increase by 175 thebe per litre.
The above changes take effect from 00:01hrs Monday 20th December 2021.
The previous retail pump price upward adjustment was on 8 October 2021. The upward adjustment of pump prices for all products was necessitated by the movement of international product prices, exchange rates and average freight rate assessment (AFRA)
That notwithstanding, the accrued unit rates under recoveries (difference between actual cost of product and pump price) were never cleared by the price increase because international oil prices have generally been increasing.
This has led to increase of the cumulative debt between government and oil companies. Therefore there is need for regular price adjustments to manage unit rates and the cumulative debt to oil companies
